I’m Not a Joke is a campaign spreading awareness for the LGBTI community through art and design, created by Daniel Arzola (@Arzola_d) for the school of Visual Arts Rafael Monasterios in light of the recent violent acts against the sexually diverse community in Venezuela. Bringing equality to the South.
You do realize all of this is from the Old Testament (i.e. the Hebrew Bible), right?
The Old Testament was originally considered as canonical as the Greek Myths - that is, both were incorrect interpretations of the true faith.
It only got boosted up in legitimacy because of the Puritans. Their influence is why we see a lot of radical Christians clinging onto this.
The Catholic Church itself has been moving away from strict reading of the Old Testament completely shunning the radical parts like the above. The positive bits of the Old Testament more or less just serves as a primer, a sort of historical perspective on what the earlier monotheists got right.
So yes, context does matter.Also, I forgot to mention that the Old Testament was mostly written in or around the Bronze Age - one of the most brutal and destructive eras of mankind. Of course its going to be filled with murder, rape, and pillaging; reflecting the times in which it was written.
Ten commandments are also in the Old Testament. Tell me more about how you pick and choose what you want from your “great book”.
